Imrey Studio LLC | EDGARTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Edgartown Public Library contains one of Martha's Vineyard's most important historical book and painting collections. Located in the center of town since 1904, the library outgrew its building years ago and is relocating adjacent to the nearby elementary school. Celia Imrey was the lead designer for the new building, securing the project for her firm by drawing her concept in front of the committee during her interview. The designs for the library hinge on the connection of three distinct programmatic spaces: the Adult Collections, the Children's Collections, and a multi-purpose room that co-functions as a gallery. Imrey Studio devised a roof-façade treatment for a concealed gutter to remove the eave overhang and create a tight, contemporary look. The building in in an historic district subject to aesthetic and design restrictions. Tappe Architects was the Architect of Record.
