UNITED STATES NAVAL WAR COLLEGE

Newport, RI
2024 Work in Progress

Imrey Studio was engaged by Brent D. Glass LLC to provide assessment, planning guidelines, and design services for key components of a long-range campus revitalization plan for the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, following the post-September 11th security measures.

The project will infuse the historic college with new life, highlighting important cultural assets previously hidden from view and improving the campus to heighten the sense of community. Making the Naval War College Museum and Archives more accessible to the public.

By addressing both security and accessibility, this project aims to create a campus that honors the Naval War College's mission while making its rich history and resources available to a broader audience.

    This plan addresses multiple facets:
  • Reorganization of the Campus Built Environment: Enhancing the layout and functionality of campus buildings.
  • Increased Accessibility: Implementing strategies to make the Navy's history and heritage accessible to the public despite security needs.
  • Artifact Collection Management: Assessing and optimizing the display and preservation of current collections.
  • Program Needs Assessment: Thoroughly evaluating the programs and their requirements to ensure they are met effectively.
  • Future War Gaming Center: Developing a new state-of-the-art facility for War Gaming and strategy that meets the needs of the Naval War College community, including students, visitors, and scholars.
